5MW of Flexible Grid Power Unlocks 10x Faster Grid Access for EV Operator

December 4, 2025

Critical Loop unlocks fast, cost-effective grid access for EV fleets at constrained sites, accelerating operations while reducing delays and costs.

Key Takeaways (TL;DR)

Critical Loop enabled a site to access 5MW of power, where no supply was previously possible, by deploying its UL-3141 compliant controller and flexible interconnection. This allowed the customer to bypass utility upgrade delays and energize EV charging operations rapidly, unlocking new productivity and business growth potential.

Situation

A growing EV fleet operator had found the perfect site: affordable lease terms, plenty of space for charging infrastructure, and great access to major highways. But the utility could not deliver the full 5 MW they needed. To receive that power, the operator would have had to wait at least 18 months for utility upgrades. During that time, the operator would miss out on fleet revenue from the delayed site launch and lose customers. At first glance, that made the site a non-starter. But by accessing excess capacity on the grid, the project was able to move forward.

Solution

Critical Loop deployed its UL 3141 certified controller to monitor real-time power usage while dynamically comparing it to the utility’s available power. This enables access to additional power that would otherwise be restricted. The controller’s dynamic limit setting allows the utility to confidently provide increased power most of the year while ensuring the customer never exceeds grid capacity during rare curtailment events, optimizing reliability and grid stability.

Results

Access to power means the EV fleet operator has a revenue generating site where it otherwise would have not been usable.
